Hearts for Rwanda is a collaborative project between the children of Urukundo (Love) Home for Children and U.S. chidlren.
The children of Urukundo drew and painted hearts on fifty 5X7 canvases. The canvases were then hand-carried back to Pittsburgh and given to children in congregations and public schools. These young Pittsburgh artists added their own embellishments, then mounted and shallacked the art to ready them for the show.
In February the first "Hearts for Rwanda Art Show and Sale", coinciding with Valentines Day, was hosted by the Spiritworks Center of Forest Hills, outside of Pittsburgh. $300 was raised. In May, the After-School Program children of Braddock Elementary hosted a second event and raised and sent $400.
And because everyone is a volunteer every cent goes directly to support the African children.
Do you have a group of chldren or young people who want to work with Spiritworks and Hearts for Rwanda? Call or text Tricia at 412-999-1912 or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Each unique art work is wood-mounted and shellacked. It is then displayed along with a photo and name of the Rwandan child. Go to www.heartsforrwanda.com for information on how you can get involved.
